This document details the life and families of Ălisabeth Corse, a colonial captive, and her two husbands in New France: Jean Dumontet dit Lagrandeur and Pierre Monet.
Ălisabeth Corse dit Lacasse (1696â1766)
Ălisabeth was born Elizabeth Corse in Deerfield, Massachusetts, on February 6, 1696, to James Corse Sr. and Elizabeth Catlin.
Captivity and Assimilation
She was captured in the French and Indigenous raid of February 29, 1704, and carried to Canada. In New France, she was adopted by the Roy-Ducharme family and assimilated into French Catholic culture.
- She was baptized Catholic on July 14, 1705.
- She later became known as Ălisabeth Casse or Marie-Ălisabeth-Isabelle Lacasse dit Corse.
- She sought and received naturalization as a citizen of New France in 1706 [1].
The Illegitimate Daughter (Corrected Dates)
Before her first marriage, Ălisabeth had a daughter by an unknown father. This child lived only a few days:
- Marie-Françoise: Baptized April 20, 1712, and buried April 26, 1712 [4].
Ălisabeth lived a long life, marrying twice and having many children. She died at age 70 and was buried on January 30, 1766, at La Prairie.
đ€” First Marriage: Jean Dumontet dit Lagrandeur
Jean Dumontet dit Lagrandeur was the son of Jean Dumontet and Georgette Foran of La Prairie. He was born around 1659.
They were married at La Prairie on November 6, 1712. After nearly seventeen years of marriage, Jean Dumontet died and was buried on May 22, 1729, at La Prairie.

đ Second Marriage: Pierre Monet dit Boismenu
Ălisabeth married Pierre Monet dit Boismenu on January 16, 1730, at La Prairie [3]. This marriage took place less than a year after Jean Dumontet's death.
- Pierre Monet was born and baptized on March 19, 1704. He was significantly younger than Ălisabeth.
- Pierre Monet was the older brother of her son-in-law, François Monet.
- Pierre Monet outlived Ălisabeth and was buried at La Prairie on February 16, 1774.
